Snow Day- In April

Are you sick of snow pictures yet?  Sorry.  We got another 18" of the white stuff last night.

What does that look like?  I'm glad you asked!

Do you like our driveway?  What driveway you ask?  Exactly.

We usually have stairs going up to the deck.

What Came First?

The Chicken (s!!!!) or The Coop?!?!!?!?!?

I'll let you guess!

These gals are saying, "You've got to be kidding me?  We were sold to people with NO COOP!!!???"

This coop dilemma wouldn't be a huge issue if a) We didn't have piles of snow on the ground b) We weren't expecting more snow c) The resident coop builder wasn't in the busiest time of his year = no time for coop building

Our chicks are well on their way to chickens.  They have all almost completely lost their soft fluff and their wings are getting more and more "chicken-like".

In the next issue of "chicken" you will get to see these ladies laying eggs on Brett's man-cave desk!  Just watch your step.

3 Little Monkeys

 

We have a king sized bed.  So why is it that Brett and I share our "allotment" of bed every night which is close to the size of a toddler bed?  Okay, this isn't every night.  The night I took this picture the kids were up late, Veronica needed a little extra, me, and Felicity would not be swayed to sleep in her own bed with Nica in our bed.  Oh well.  The girls slept great, I woke up feeling every second of my age (have I mentioned I'm 17+ weeks pregnant too?) and Brett grumbled something about "being squished".  

Spring has Sprung

Okay, I'm lying.  Spring is so far away that I'm not even pretending we'll see it anytime soon anymore.  Thursday afternoon a storm blew in.  Here we are, 18" of snow later.  And it's currently snowing.

Don't feel too sorry for us.  We kept ourselves occupied.

The dress is one that my mom made for my sister when she was little.  All of the girls have worn it for a special "Little Blue Dress" picture.  They all filled it out much more than poor, puny Felicity does.  Precious gal.

The good news is that Felicity is actually eating food these days.  A lot of food, just very little variety.  She's eating absurd amounts of eggs, bananas, and guacamole mainly.  An occasional strawberry and cucumber will make it into her mouth.  This girl has me looking at food in a new way, that's for sure.

How else do we keep ourselves entertained other than scrambling eggs and dressing little girls up?  Big brothers have a special way of entertaining.

I'm hoping that we can get another good week of schoolwork in this week as we managed to do last week.  As we wrap up the school year I always enjoy looking back and evaluating what we've done.  The "real" teachers might not be impressed, but I've found my own little niche in this homeschooling world, and I'm content.  The more I do this, the more I see the importance of letting my children read for insanely long amounts of time, practice piano, and play outside to their hearts' content.  They do math, writing, and science as well.  I'm convinced they will be just fine in the "school" department although I still feel a tinge of guilt when I see the school bus drive by and we've been "finished" for hours.

...why I never post? Many reasons, really. None of which are very profound, but some are very sweet.

It's Lent

Wow!  Darn that liturgical calendar.  I feel like we just put our Christmas stuff away, and here we are.  Lent.  Although it came upon us quickly, I am not unprepared this year.  I have many, many things to pray for and work on and grow in.  So many in fact that I forced myself to narrow it down lest I fall victim to the "set-myself-up-for-failure" syndrome that has plagued me before during this wonderful season.

This week has been full of excitement and sadness.  Monday morning's news of our Holy Father's retirement set a tone for this Lent for sure. 

This week is also the beginning of "birthday season" (not to be confused with the Christmas season that just ended).  We have 4 birthdays within 3 weeks of one another.  During Lent.  Oy!
