I'm going to be a typical homeschooling mother today. We will get some of the main stuff done, but for the remainder of the day we are going to be studying Chile!
We have been watching with anticipation as the Chilean miners are being rescued. When news of the miners first hit the media we began praying for them. Emma was especially concerned that their children might not see them for months, but was grateful to hear that it looked like they would, by some miracle, be okay when it was all said and done.
We have a special place in our hearts for these Chilean miners in the Atacama desert. They feel like distant relatives. You see, Brett's dad grew up in a mine camp in the Atacama desert and knew people just like these men in his early years. He walked and played on the same ground that these men work and live. These men could be the sons or grandsons of the Chilean kids he knew. Probably not, but it's fun to think about it.
Ever since I met Brett I was always fascinated with his father's childhood. We have Chilean art in our house, have eaten food that Bill remembered loving as a kid, and have looked at countless slides, not to mention have a book on our shelves that he wrote about his memories as an American kid in a Chilean mine camp.
So today we keep close to our hears these men and their families, and will celebrate along with Chile when that last miner is safe.

We have friends living in Calama, Chile. He actually does work with copper mining. We have also been watching the rescue. Praise God for their return to their families.
