If only mouths grew in relation to the amount of time they were used for talking! Today we had dentist appointments and the dreaded, yet not unexpected, announcement was made, "Aidan will need to see the orthodontist". We figured that was coming from looking at the way his "big" teeth are growing in, but we didn't think it would happen so soon. Apparently, his other "big" teeth don't have anywhere to grow, so they're not!
Luckily for Emma she doesn't have to do that yet...well, not until she's older to correct her cross bite (but it's soooo cute!)
So, if you don't hear from us in a couple of weeks it's because the orthodontist, to make payments simpler, decided to just take our house! Just kidding! Luckily we have some coverage through our insurance. Had I known that we would be dealing with this so soon I would have paid more attention to what the coverage is exactly.

Loving the weekend
The weather has been absolutely perfect the past couple of days. Beautiful fall weather. On the warm side, with just a hint of coolness in the air. Refreshing!
Yesterday we spent the day running errands and getting some shopping done. I didn't realize how badly Emma needed clothes until a couple days in a row when I sent her upstairs after breakfast to get clothes on she came down empty handed. Oops! She's now all set for fall/winter and is super cute too (naturally).
After our crazy shopping morning we treated ourselves to some Wendy's frosties, and then went home to "watch" the WI/MI football game. Brett has an amazing talent for watching football...he must be able to know what's going on even if his eyes are closed.
Today was another wonderful family day. After Mass we spent a little bit of time straightening up the house and then went for a long walk on the trail. We've had a lot of rain and the kids were having a blast splashing through the puddles. Gianna opted for the stroller which meant we all got some good exercise. Ouch! I'm *not* 21 anymore (shhhh...don't tell anyone).
This evening was spent just hanging out. I helped Brett get some school stuff done, and then we put the kids to bed and had our date night. I love that we started this date night thing. It's something we look forward to every week. Aidan loves popping down (he's not usually asleep yet, just reading in bed) and "checking" on us. I love that he sees us making time for one another.
This week looks like it will go as fast as last week. We have something every day/night. Ugh. I am so thankful that we have our weekends together. Brett is literally a blur in the week. It's gotten to the point that he'll stand up or shift or something and Gigi automatically says, "Bye Daddy!". The times that he pops in for lunch or to get something are so special.
Until next time!

19 weeks!
I am officially 19 weeks today, which is usually 1/2-way for me. Gianna was the only babe that went past 38 weeks (I think I was 38 1/2 weeks with her).
Things are looking good. We'll have an ultrasound sometime next week where we could but WON'T find out what we're having! :-)
I've only gained 2 pounds since my first appointment so I'm on strict orders to eat, and eat, and eat some more. My doc isn't really concerned, but does want to make sure that I'm taking in enough calories. Have I mentioned how much I love my doctor? He's great!
Luckily for everyone involved my pre-natal appointments are pretty boring (except for Gianna who scored a sucker and a cool band-aid). Baby's looking good, I'm doing fine. I am sooo thankful that things are going well! We're really looking forward to welcoming this "little one" in February! Yahoo!!!!!

Wish Me Luck
I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon. Brett will be taking Miss Itch-a-lot to ballet with the other kids, which means.......I have to drive the truck.
Now, keep in mind that my sister and I were not allowed to get our driver's licenses until we learned how to drive my grandpa's ole Chevy which was a manual pick-up truck. It's not that I don't know how to do it. It's just well, I haven't done it in at least 10 years when my sister I shared a red 4-wheel drive Nissan pick-up truck. Add to that, the city across the bay is one big hill. I have to go up a super-steep section of road, be on the highway, probably stop a few times....ahhhhhh!!!!! Driving the truck around town here is no big deal, but...oh dear.
Wish me luck!

Not Emma's Night
Poor Emma. She had a great afternoon playing in the leaves with everyone else, but then she just kept itching and itching and itching. I just figured she was itchy from the leaves and didn't think twice until we were at the Newman Center and I noticed she had red splotches on her hands. Well, on her hands, her arms, her neck, her back, her stomach, her you name it and she had a horrible warm, raised, red rash on it. :-( Poor gal.
We brought her home and put her in a bath with baking soda. Brett went to get some Benadryl from the store (which I *always* have on hand) while I read the kids books, and now they are all peacefully sleeping. Of course Emma had to smack her head against the bathroom door on the way out and then knock her knee on Brett's night stand as she crawled into our bed for book time. She was very happy the day was ending.
I have no idea what made Emma react. Maybe she's just allergic to something in the leaves. The only thing I can think of is that we have squirrels all over the place and they are always leaving their peanut shells all over our yard. As far as we know, Emma's allergy to peanuts would only be triggered if she actually consumed the nuts, but maybe there was enough peanut residue in the leaves to cause a reaction.
Of course what do I know, I'm not a "real" doctor (you know, like one that gets paid and can prescribe things), I just accurately diagnose people and all I have to show for it is a "hey, guess what Dr.Meghan...you were right again!". Gee, thanks. Oh, but I guess that's for another post entirely.

Did I truly just say that?
"Gianna, stop throwing a fit and act like a two-year-old"
?????????????
I'm going to blame that one on preggo-brain. CanNOT believe it actually came out of my mouth!

Uh-oh
Gianna walked into our bedroom and found me waiting to read books to the kids on the bed...the following conversation took place:
"Whatya doing on our bed mommy?"
"Our bed...what do you mean our bed?"
"Mine, yours, and daddy's bed"
Oh dear...this little gal has a rude awakening come February. It's just so hard to resist her when she snuggles in next to me in the middle of the night and declares, "You're soft and warm" and promptly falls asleep.
***As I was typing this Gigi came down and told me that her "these" were sticking out of her bed (her toes). I said, "Oh no, we can't have toes sticking out of bed can we?" A hopeful grin appeared on her face as she said, "No, I better sweep in your guys's bed." She is currently not a happy camper that I insisted that she has to at least begin the night in what she must believe to be her "bonus bed".***

Fall is Here!
Aidan had to get outside and rake today. I'm saying it's because he's 6 1/2 and loves being outdoors. It couldn't possibly be his total Type A personality that made him crazy until he could get outside and rake up the leaves that have "dusted" our backyard. I didn't want him to feel defeated so I didn't make him look up at the huge maple tree looming over our yard with a treeful of yellow leaves ready to fall.

Classic
Gigi was pulling her shirt down over her shoulder and I put it back up and said, "Gig, don't do that to your shirt."
"But I need my shoulder"
"Why do you need your shoulder?"
"Because I want to snuggle with it!"
She then proceeded to walk out of the room with her cheek resting against her exposed shoulder. Oh dear.

Sleep!
Sleep is such a wonderful thing. Brett has, for quite some time, called me the "sleep poet" because I can be quite poetic about how wonderful sleep is. No time for poetry last night...we were in bed, ASLEEP at 8:45pm. I haven't had so much sleep in a long time and it was just what I needed to start this week!

Gigi-ism
As my precious Gianna was hugging my belly and talking to the baby, "What kinda baby you sink is in dare mommy?"
"I don't know sweety. What do you think?"
"I sink a pink one....or maybe a brown one!"
So there you have it! We are either having a pink or brown baby!

One more thing...
Emma turned five!
I knew I was missing something. We will not be disclosing this bit of information to our good friend who is a middle child and cringes whenever she hears of "typical" middle child things happening to our sweet middle child. Luckily, I don't think she reads this blog so I'm safe!

I'm back!!!
Did ya miss me? Our computer has been going crazy so we took it to the computer hospital only to pay a bunch of money and have our computer still crazy! Sooooo...I ended up fixing it myself. Grrrr.....
A recap of all that's happened since I last posted:
We sold our car
We bought a truck
Fall began
We went canoeing (in the canoe that we bought)
Still doing school
Read a "real" book
Baby started moving
Aidan is now a yellow-stripe in karate
Brett auditioned for a timpani spot in the symphony
Some hotshot from San Fran got said timpani spot in the symphony
A hurricane hit where we used to live and luckily did not affect everyone we know down there, just some (please electric company in Houston...4 kids and no electricity is not cool....turn it on already)
See, you didn't really miss anything at all. Someday I'll even post some pictures.

It's the Weekend!
Yay for the weekend! I know that it's just Friday, but at our little home we only do school Monday-Thursday and take Friday off to clean the house and go to the library (which are both always enlightening and educational experiences...trust me!).
We have a birthday party of our godson here in town and Brett is singing with the Schola at some catechetical conference, but other than that we are going to chill and have a great time! The weather has been perfect. Perfect for fall! It's chilly enough to finally put away all short sleeves and warm enough to be outside without a jacket.
Our bunnies are growing up fast. I'm so glad kids don't grow up that fast...or do they? I'll try to get a picture when I can.
We are also on the verge of selling our car so Brett can buy a 4X4 pick 'em up truck. It will be nice to have the truck so we can stop trashing our van to do projects, and so he doesn't get stuck and freeze when he goes deer hunting this fall/winter! I'll miss our Buick though. It's such a great car.
That's about it from here I suppose. Better get going on the cleaning (2 kids are still sleeping which is extremely unusual, but I'm not complaining) and get this place in top shape for the *real* weekend.

Hint for Homeschoolers!
The timer is your friend. If you tell your children, "Okay, we're going to take a fifteen minute break and then it's back to work", set the timer for fifteen minutes and get back to work. I've found that once I say "break" something in my mind tells me that I must get done every last task that is hanging over my head. When we're home it's easy to get sidetracked and just keep plugging away at our day to day tasks.
The same advice can be given for the start of the day. No more "okay, five more minutes kids" for me. It always turns into five more and then five more and then into, "after I get the kitchen cleaned", "after I vacuum", "we'll start as soon as I (enter anything other than school)". So there you have it. Some unsolicited advice from a not-quite-so-veteran homeschooling mom!

I'm awake!
Staying at home with my kids has sure spoiled me. So has my amazing husband who wakes up and gets ready for work without disturbing my much-needed rest. Now, however, with two school aged kids, sleeping until the babe who is next to me wakes up is no longer feasible. We have a goal of starting school by 7:30am with our "ora time" (prayer time) so we can be finished at 11:00am when Brett walks across the street to eat lunch with us. This means that I have to get up an get moving!
This waking up thing hasn't been so bad. For one, I actually get to see my husband before he goes to work (he leaves early so he can practice before classes start in the morning). I also have time to throw a load of laundry in, straighten things up, and actually put a tiny bit of thought into my appearance.
The morning is not so horrible as I once thought. It feels good to get up and get the day started!
Good morning!!!!
